将下列英语段落译成汉语:Two metal surfaces rubbing together cause friction and heat; bu
t if they are separated by a thin film of oil, the friction and heat are reduced. No machine would work for long if it were not properly lubricated. The oil used for this purpose must be of the correct thickness; if it is too thin it will not give sufficient lubrication, and if it is too thick it will not reach all parts that must be lubricated.

The earth is much cooler than the sun, and the wave length of the earth's radiations is mu
ch longer than that of sunrays. These longer heat waves cannot pass through the atmosphere as easily as the short waves coming from the sun. Similarly, radio stations that transmit programs to distant countries broadcast in short waves, which can travel all around the world. Stations that broadcast local programs send out longer waves, which can be received more easily, but only in a limited area.

(83) Heat waves, rising from the earth, meet resistance in the atmosphere from the water vapor there. Many if the waves are stopped by the water vapor can not get back out into space. The atmosphere, when it is warmed up, also adds some heat back to the earth's surface.

When the sun's rays strike water surface, some of the water becomes absorbed by the air as water vapor. The warmer the air is, the more vapor it can hold. When the air has absorbed its maximum amount of vapor, it is said to be saturated. If the air is then cooled, some of the vapor will condense and clouds will form. (84)These clouds, will contain drops of water at temperatures above freezing, or ice crystals at temperatures below freezing.

Clouds can greatly affect the temperature of the earth's surface. When there are many clouds in the sky, all of the sun's rays can not reach the earth. The cloudy day, then, will be cooler than the cloudless day. Clouds also prevent the earth from cooling off rapidly at night. For this reason, countries such as the British Isles, which are often covered by clouds, have a relatively constant temperature. The weather in these cloudy areas is neither very hot in summer nor very cold in winter. On the other hand, places such as deserts, which have few or no clouds, have very sharp variations in temperature—between night and day as well as between summer and winter.

Radio stations that transmit programs to distant countries send out waves that resemble______.

A.heat waves rising from the earth

B.waves absorbed by water vapor

C.waves sent out by radio stations that transmit local programs

D.the rays sent out from the sun

听力原文:W: Hi, Mike.

M: Hi. I'm surprised to see you on the city bus. Why not drive your car?

W: (23)I've been thinking about the environment lately. If we all use public transportation when we could, the air will be much cleaner.

M: Right. But the bus isn't exactly pollution free.

W: True. But they'll be running a lot cleaner soon, We were just talking about that in my environmental engineering class.

M: What's the city going to do? Install pollution filters of some sort on their buses?

W: They could, but those filters make the engines work harder and really cut down on fuel efficiency. Instead they found a way to make their engines more efficient.

M: How?

W: Well, (24)there is a material called the coniine oxide. It's a really good insulator. And a thick coat of it gets sprayed on the certain part of the engine.

M: An insulator?

W: Yes. (25)It reflects back the heat of burning fuel. So the fuel will burn much hotter and burn up more completely.

M: So a lot less unburned fuel comes out to pollute the air, right?

W: Yeah, and the bus will need less fuel. So with the savings on fuel cost, they say this will all pay for itself in just six months.

M: Sounds like people should all go out and get this stuff to spray their car engines.

W: Well, not really that easy. To melt the materials before you can spray a coat of it on the engine parts, you first have to heat it over 10,000 degrees. It's not something we are able to do ourselves.

(20)

A.Something is wrong with her car.

B.The cost of the fuel is high.

C.It's cheap to take bus.

D.She thinks public transportation is environmental friendly.

Heat Co specialises in the production of a range of air conditioning appliances for indust
rial premises. It is about to launch a new product, the ‘Energy Buster’, a unique air conditioning unit which is capable of providing unprecedented levels of air conditioning using a minimal amount of electricity. The technology used in the Energy Buster is unique so Heat Co has patented it so that no competitors can enter the market for two years. The company’s development costs have been high and it is expected that the product will only have a five-year life cycle.

Heat Co is now trying to ascertain the best pricing policy that they should adopt for the Energy Buster’s launch onto the market. Demand is very responsive to price changes and research has established that, for every $15 increase in price, demand would be expected to fall by 1,000 units. If the company set the price at $735, only 1,000 units would be demanded.

The costs of producing each air conditioning unit are as follows:

Note

The first air conditioning unit took 1·5 hours to make and labour cost $8 per hour. A 95% learning curve exists, in relation to production of the unit, although the learning curve is expected to finish after making 100 units. Heat Co’s management have said that any pricing decisions about the Energy Buster should be based on the time it takes to make the 100th unit of the product. You have been told that the learning co-efficient, b = –0·0740005.

All other costs are expected to remain the same up to the maximum demand levels.

Required:

(a) (i) Establish the demand function (equation) for air conditioning units; (3 marks)

(ii) Calculate the marginal cost for each air conditioning unit after adjusting the labour cost as required by the note above; (6 marks)

(iii) Equate marginal cost and marginal revenue in order to calculate the optimum price and quantity. (3 marks)

(b) Explain what is meant by a ‘penetration pricing’ strategy and a ‘market skimming’ strategy and discuss whether either strategy might be suitable for Heat Co when launching the Energy Buster. (8 marks)

There are many problems in our modern world. One very serious problem is energy. We get a great 【71】 of energy we need from coal, gas, and oil. However, the 【72】 of energy which we use is 【73】 every year, and we only have enough coal, gas, and oil for the next twenty or thirty years. How will we live 【74】 the energy which these things give us? Scientists are looking for 【75】 to this problem. They are looking for new 【76】 to produce energy. For example, they are working with new ways 【77】 energy from the light and heat of the sun. They are also working with plans which produce energy from 【78】 of the oceans. All of the new methods 【79】 scientists are finding are still very expensive, but perhaps they will help solve our energy problems 【80】 the future.

If you are like most people, your intelligence varies from season to season. You are proba
bly a lot sharper in the spring than you are at any other time of year. A noted scientist, Ells- worth Huntington (1876-1947) concluded from other men's work and his own among peoples in different climates that climate and: temperature have a definite effect on our mental abilities.

He found that cool weather is much more favorable for creative thinking than summer heat is. This does not mean that all people are less intelligent in the summer than they are during the rest of the year. It does mean, however, that mental, abilities of large numbers of people tend to be lowest in the summer.

Spring appears to be the best period of the year for thinking. One reason may be that in the spring man's mental abilities are affected by the same factors that bring about great changes in all nature.

Fall is the next best season, then winter. As for summer, it seems to be a good time to take a long vacation from thinking!

According to the passage, your mental ability ______.

A.depends on your attitude towards people in different time of the year

B.changes for the worst when you dislike most people in hot season

C.will be best in winter and worst in summer if you want to be creative

D.turns to be more powerful in spring than in any of the other seasons
