Which of your two hands do you use much better? Very few of us can use both of our hands e
qually well. Most of us are right - handed. Only about five people out of a hundred are left - handed. Newborn ha bies can grasp objects with either of their hands, but in about two years they usually prefer to use their right hands.

Scientists don't know why this happens. They used to think that we inherited (继承) this tendency from our animal ancestors (祖先), but this may not be true. Monkeys are our closest relatives in the animal world. Scientists have found that monkeys prefer to use one of their hands more than the other, but it can be either hand. There are as many right - handed monkeys as there are left - handed ones. Next time you visit the zoo, watch the monkeys carefully. You' 11 see that some of them will prefer to swing from their right hands, and others will use their left hands. But most human beings use their right hands better, and this makes life difficult for those who prefer to use their left hands.

Most of us use our right hands ______ the left ones.

A.as well as

B.not so well as

C.much better than

D.more better than

What is your favorite color? Do you like yellow, orange or red? If you do, you must be an
optimist (乐观者), a leader, an active person. Do you prefer grays and blues? Then you are probably quiet, shy and you would rather follow than lead. If you love green, you are strong-minded and determined. At least this is what psychologists (心理学家) tell us. They have been seriously studying the meaning of color preference (爱好), and the effect that colors have on human beings. They tell us that we don't choose our favorite color as we grow up. If you happen to love brown, you did so as soon as you opened your eyes, or at least as soon as you could see clearly.

A yellow room makes us feel more cheerful and more comfortable than a dark green one. On the other hand, black is depressing. Light and bright colors make people not only happier but more active. It is a fact that factory workers work better, harder, and have fewer accidents when their machines are painted orange rather than black or dark gray.

Remember that you will know your friends and your enemies better when you find out what colors they like and dislike. And don't forget that anyone can guess a lot about your character when you choose a piece of handkerchief.

According to this passage,______.

A.one can choose his color preference

B.one is born with his color preference

C.one's color preference is changeable

D.one has to choose his favorite color as soon as he can see clearly

A great difference between American social customs and those of other countries is the way
in which names are used. Americans have little concern for "rank", especially socially. (76) Most Americans do not want to be treated in any especially respectful way because of their age or social rank; it makes them feel uncomfortable. Many Americans even find the terms "Mr. ", "Mrs." or "Miss." too formal. People of all ages may prefer to be called by their first names. "Don't call me Mrs. Smith, just call me Sally." Using only first names usually indicates friendliness and acceptance. However, if you do not feel comfortable using only first names, it is quite acceptable to be more formal. Just smile and say that after a while you will use first names but you are accustomed to being more formal when you first meet someone.

Very often, introductions are made using both first and last names: "Mary Smith, this is John Jones." In this situation you are free to decide whether to call the lady "Mary" or "Miss Smith". Sometimes both of you will begin a conversation using last names, and after a while one or both of you may begin using first names instead. You have a choice: if you don't want to use first names so quickly, no one will think it impolite if you continue according to your own custom.

In the first paragraph the author tells us that ______.

A.Americans do not talk about rank, especially socially

B.Americans feel uncomfortable when talking about rank

C.Americans take interests in social customs

D.Americans don't care much about social rank

A: Very well, we have settled everything about this transaction, except the terms of payment.

B: As you know, we prefer the L/C 20 days in advance which expires 15 days after receiving the paking list.

A: I suppose you have known our financial standing and credit well now after our long-term cooperation. We know an irrevocable L/C can ensure that the seller gets payment duly. But, on the other hand, it would increase the buying cost. Therefore, could you consider giving us D/P this time?

B: I am sorry. But our rules only allow us to accept other terms of payment by L/C, although the buyer has had two or three transactions with us before.

A: But why not if you have known the buyer's credit after several deals?

B: We hope you can understand. We have got some serious lessons from the credulity. One of them was through D/P documentary collection. When the shipment worth US $50000 was effected, the buyer refused to make the payment. But we can do nothing with it.And that buyer had had one or two deals before this one.

A: I see.But the flexible terms of payment will definitely bring you more orders as well as facilitate the buyers' purchasing.

B: Sure.We don't mean we won't accept other terms of payment forever. As a matter of fact, we will do so when we have known well about the buyer's credit after a real long-term cooperation.

What is your favorite color? Do you like yellow, orange, and red? If you do, you must
be an optimist (乐观者), a leader, and an active person who enjoys life, people and excitement.Do you prefer grays and blues? Then you are probably quiet, shy and you would rather follow than lead. You tend to be a pessimist. At least, this is what psychologists (心理学家)tell us, and they should know, because they have been seriously study ing the meaning of color preference, as well as the effect that colors have on human beings. They tell us among other facts, that we do not choose our favorite color as we grow up — we are born with our preference. If you happen to love brown, you did so,as soon as you opened your eyes, or at least as soon as you could see clearly.

Color does influence our moods (情绪)― there is no doubt about it.A yellow room makes most people feel more cheerful and more relaxed than a dark green one; and a red dress bri ngs warmth and cheer to the saddest winter day.On the other hand, black is depressing.A black bridge over the Thames River, near London, used to be the scene of more suicides than any other bridge in the area — until it was repainted green. The number of suicide attempts immediately fell sharply; perhaps it would have fallen even more if the bridge had been done in pink or baby blue.

Light and bright colors make people not only happier but also more active. It is an established fact that factory workers work better, harder, and have fewer accidents when their machines are painted orange rather than black or gray.
